maxi to the max at montreal
medyo late dahil kinulong ako sa kumbento ng isang linggo. hehe. sept 6, sulat mula kay raymond, ang dakilang pasimuno:
We won! Twelve hours ago at the closing ceremonies of the 29th Montreal World Film Festival, our little movie was proclaimed winner of the Golden Zenith award for Best First Fiction Feature.
The jury, composed of Godfrey Cheshire (United States), Loic Magneron (France) and Paul Toutant (Canada) announced the prize, saying: "For its impressive quasi-documentary style and its spirit of humanity and tolerance, the jury unanimously awards the Golden Zenith to "The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros" from the Philippines."
The jury said it was "impressed... with the quality of the films in the competition."
The Silver Zenith went to "Truth or Dare" from Germany, the Bronze to "London" from the United States and Honorable Mention to "My Brother"s Summer" from Italy.
Our director Aureaus Solito and I went up the stage to accept the trophy. Aureaus' voice broke with emotion and his speech moved many in the audience.
He said this honor was "empowering and inspiring to all independent filmmakers in the Philippines" and that digital filmmaking had "equalized expression in the Third World with that in First World countries."
He concluded: "We are poor but not in spirit."
